Manufacturing industry

Cyviz’ unique technology has a proven track record as an efficient, easy-to-use and cost effective way of applying sophisticated visualization in various manufacturing industrial segments. The cutting edge tools from Cyviz are engineered to provide decision makers and development teams with photo realism in their collaborative work. The uncompromising solutions allow for very high quality output from virtual models, through large scale and/or immersive stereoscopic displays built to satisfy industrial requirements.

Cyviz visualization systems have a host of manufacturing applications, from reducing time to market, iterative design processes, crash-test simulations, airflow simulations, production planning and design decision making, to name but a few.

Application

Major industrial players typically strive to realise potential from their market research, and seek input from end-users and major stakeholders in their projects from the outset. Cyviz visualization products empower designers with a capacity to do more on the drawing board prior to developing physical prototypes. This dramatically reduces development time, and allows for increased design efficiency, more effective collaboration, reduction in time to market and is a winner in sales settings.

Value creation in manufacturing

Cyviz’ visualisation systems are highly potent tools for reducing cost-driving development times in the manufacturing industry, in that they generate rich, informative and detailed visual information for decision makers and developers before products go into final production. Costly mistakes due to miscommunication or misunderstanding of various design aspects may thus be avoided. Customization and alterations in products can be illustrated very effectively, and changes may be displayed in the blink of an eye. Key gains include:

Quicker roll-out and reduced design time

Intuitive and simple exploration of virtual designs

Effective planning tool for final production

Sales tool for easy product understanding

Compelling key feature demonstrations

“It is imperative for us to present our technological competences in 3D. Cyviz helped put us in a position to realise our ambitious plans.”

Dipl.Ing Holger Will, EDAG Engineering,

Frankfurt, Germany.

Challenge:

German engineering company EDAG Engineering + Design AG develop advanced solutions for tomorrow’s vehicles and manufacturing facilities worldwide. The firm takes their complex projects through the entire development process all the way to serial production. With 30 branch offices on five continents and more than 4 200 employees, the resources invested in efficient product development are formidable. EDAG have an enduring challenge in presenting their competencies and solutions in all three dimensions, and found that their existing 3D-equipment suffered from being cumbersome in use, as well as offering little in terms of flexibility. The existing tools were rigid in that they required structural modifications in the buildings they were permanently installed, and did not offer sufficient quality in the images generated. A new stereoscopic solution was to be introduced.

Solution:

After searching the market for an effective, yet cost efficient stereoscopic visualisation tool that would satisfy stringent quality standards, EDAG Engineering + Design AG opted for a Cyviz vizwall, which was put into operation in December 2004. The vizwall was selected on grounds of its user-friendliness, the quality of the image generated and flexibility in use, and evident cost-efficiency.

Outcome:

The vizwall was found to satisfy EDAG Engineering + Design AG high expectations, facilitating the simulation of engineering projects and collaborative work in user settings, and delaying the production of physical scale models. The 6 x 2,3 meter stereo wall installed at the company’s Fulda facilities, allows for 1:1 scale automotive studies and discussion with clients. The advanced, but efficient technology may be controlled with just one high-end workstation, and also allows for standard programs such as MS PowerPoint presentations to be displayed.
