AMK Sunnmøre

Medical Command Central, Ålesund, Norway

AMK Sunnmore, located within the hospital in Ålesund, Norway, is the vital hub for the region’s 113 emergency number. It’s a 24/7 operation that coordinates medical resources and ambulance services via car, helicopter, and plane. In a mission-critical environment where split-second decisions save lives, the command center required a technology upgrade that was not only stable and secure but also intuitive and highly functional.

Location: Ålesund, Norway
Summary

To support its complex, high-stakes workflows, the Acute Medical Command Central (AMK) in Ålesund, Norway, partnered with Cyviz for a comprehensive technology upgrade. The project involved implementing a new, integrated video collaboration and visualization platform across the main command center and two emergency response rooms. The result is a world-class facility that supports rapid, informed decision-making and improved operational efficiency.

Challenge

The AMK needed a technology solution that could keep pace with its demanding, mission-critical operations. The system had to be stable and secure, yet flexible enough to support complex workflows and facilitate collaboration. It also needed to provide seamless access to critical information across multiple rooms without compromising security.

Solution

Cyviz implemented a standardized, high-quality technology platform centered around large, seamless displays and an intuitive control system. The solution included three rooms—the main AMK and two emergency response rooms—all connected to the same system. This design allowed operators to dynamically manage content, share information interactively, and collaborate in real-time. The system was also designed with a “meeting room mode” to increase overall utilization and ROI when not in emergency use.

Result

The new Cyviz platform transformed the AMK into a state-of-the-art emergency response center, providing a foundation for enhanced workflows and improved efficiency. Key outcomes include:

  • Improved Room Ergonomics: Large, seamless displays provide enhanced readability and a single view of all critical data, which is essential for fast, informed decisions.

  • Ease of Use: Operators can intuitively manage and share information within each room and between the command center and the emergency response rooms.

  • Seamless Data Management: The integrated system allows users to access and control a wide range of data sources, including live feeds, maps, and news stations, to support critical situations.

  • Enhanced Stability: The standardized technology platform ensures 24/7 stability and a consistent user experience, supported by efficient post-installation technical support.

As Emergency Response Manager Hans Olav Ose noted, “We were looking for technologies that could support our workflows in a way that was easy, secure and stable. Cyviz does all that, but the new platform has also opened up for improving workflows in ways we didn’t envision when the project was started.

Multi-purpose

Both emergency response rooms may also be used as standard meeting rooms. This will increase utilization of the rooms and add value to other parts of the operation, thus improving the overall return on investment. When either of the rooms is set to “meeting room mode,” users will not have access to sensitive sources or content that is security graded.

AMK Backbone

All technology for the AMK and its two emergency response rooms is mounted in two 42U 19” equipment racks. Components include primary sources for each room, video processing, matrix switcher, Cyviz control system and video codecs.
