Tullow Oil, a UK-based independent exploration and production company, experienced rapid global expansion, necessitating a solution to connect its dispersed teams. With operations spanning Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America, the company needed a way to ensure its asset teams had seamless access to data and could collaborate effectively across geographical and technological boundaries.
Tullow Oil partnered with Cyviz to deploy a standardized collaborative telepresence technology across its international offices. This initiative included the construction of a state-of-the-art “Event and Technology Centre” in Dublin, featuring a large auditorium and multiple visualization suites. Identical systems are being rolled out to other international locations, enabling users to analyze geological data, collaborate in real-time with dual HD data sharing, and access experts globally, all on a user-friendly, low-bandwidth platform.
Tullow Oil’s rapid global growth created a significant challenge in maintaining effective collaboration. The company needed to connect its asset teams with experts worldwide to bring the right knowledge to the problem. A major hurdle was the limited infrastructure and low bandwidth in some of their operational regions, which made solutions based on remote graphics and high-bandwidth requirements unfeasible. The company also required a consistent user experience and standardized performance across all offices to ensure ease of use and scalability.
Tullow Oil addressed these challenges by building a new “Event and Technology Centre” in Dublin, featuring several Cyviz solutions, including an R405 for its auditorium and R208 systems for its visualization suites and training rooms. This technology was chosen for its ability to operate on standard video protocols, which requires only moderate bandwidth. The solution was designed to be easily replicated, with identical systems now being deployed in South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana. This approach provided a standardized interface, allowing users to analyze geological data, share multiple sources, and collaborate with experts in other locations with remote keyboard/mouse control.
The partnership with Cyviz has yielded significant results for Tullow Oil, enabling more efficient and effective global collaboration.
Standardized, Replicable System: The investment allowed Tullow Oil to quickly roll out systems with identical user interfaces globally, ensuring a consistent and intuitive user experience.
Enhanced Data Visualization & Collaboration: The high-resolution display walls enable users to analyze complex geological data and share multiple sources simultaneously. The systems’ robust collaboration capabilities allow for real-time data sharing in dual HD and remote control of data models, speeding up decision-making.
Overcoming Infrastructure Limitations: By basing video and data collaboration on standard video protocols, the company now has a scalable platform that performs well even in low-bandwidth environments, which was a critical requirement.
Improved Efficiency: The ability to bring the “problem to the right people” regardless of location has streamlined workflows and enhanced productivity, supporting Tullow Oil’s exploration-led growth strategy.
With our high-end visualization and unified communication systems, Cyviz control rooms can be used for national intelligence, space programs and other special operations.
